Images of winter

by | 11/11/2022 | Blog, Winter

I love taking photos of the natural world all year round. Here I have brought together some of my favourite winter shots.

I don’t have a fancy camera – it would be wasted on me. I have been using a Google Pixel 4a camera for the last couple of years. I did a bit of research before buying it and I am very pleased that it lived up to its billing as one of the best smartphones for taking pictures. And it’s a whole lot cheaper than an iPhone.

Anyway, here are some of the winter photos I have taken with it over the last two years, I hope you like them.

Frosty shadows as the sun breaks through the bare trees.

I love this misty, moody shot taken in Sutton Park. No filters. It looks like a black and white photo but it’s not.

The ducks are skating on thin ice in this one. The reflections make it for me.

Lichens need a blog post all of their own. They are beautiful, diverse and a fundamental part of the earth’s ecosystem. This may or may not be oak moss lichen (I’m not sure).

More reflections. The bare branches of the trees look quite beautiful as they are reflected back.

A Canada goose about to take flight.

Winter is not winter without a fall of snow. The red berries are peeping out so that the birds can still find them.

At last, a sign that spring is on its way. These twisted hazel catkins start to appear in February. They are the male flowers, which hope to pollinate the female ones through wind dispersal of their fine powdery pollen.

What do you think of my winter pictures?

Let me know and why not share some of yours in the comments below?
